I am Internist and Infectious Diseases specialist, serving as Associate Professor in the 3rd Department of Internal Medicine and Laboratory, of Athens National and Kapodistrian University, Medical School, at Sotiria General Hospital of Athens.
I am a graduate of the same University, from which I also acquired my PhD (Medical Doctorate) by Τhesis.
I have accomplished fellowship in infections in critically ill patients, in Saint Joseph Hospital of Paris, France, and in Vall d’Hebron Hospital of Barcelona, Spain. I was a co-founder and served as Secretary and Vice-Chair in the International Study Group of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) “Infections in Critically Ill Patients”.
Currently I am scientific responsible for a COVID-19 medical ward and an Outpatient Post Covid-19 Department and serve as an Infectious Diseases consultant in the 50-bed multivalent ICU of my hospital.
My scientific topics of interest are infections in critically ill patients, viral infections (influenza, COVID-19 and HIV), antimicrobial resistance and new antibiotics and antivirals. I have authored or co-authored more than 180 PubMed-Indexed publications in peer review journals, with more than 9000 citations and a corresponding h-index of 49 by Google Scholar.
